Welcome to our blog. Hope you enjoy!

About Us

We moved from STL to NC in 2007 and love living on the east coast. Living here, we have been blessed to explore more of the US. In 2008, we added our beautiful yellow lab, Chloe, to the family. See below for more about her. God has greatly blessed us with another addition to our family, our sweet boy, Elijah John aka Eli. Eli was born on January 23, 2011. At 12 days old, Eli required heart surgery for a narrowing of his aorta. We only found out two days prior to the surgery but our family was very blessed to have so many people praying for us. Thanks to Jesus, the healer and perfecter of all things and the excellent care at Duke, Eli is now a perfectly healthy, growing boy. We have created this blog for our friends and family to see more of our growing family! Check out the slideshow to catch up on Eli's growth over his first six months!

Apple Strawberry Banana Mix

Eli wasn't too sure about this at first but eventually, like everything else, he loved it!

Our boy is really moving. He is rolling over both ways alot and scooting backwards. It's always fun to find him in a totally different position in the morning than how he went to sleep. I will try and get some photos up soon from tummy time!

Go Bulls!

Eli went to his first baseball game last night. We saw the Durham Bulls but had to dress him in his Cardinal gear from Uncle Blake and Aunt Suzanne & Uncle Rodney. He was still a little sleepy when we got there but became very alert with everything that was going on. He did really well despite being warm and tired and made it to the sixth inning before getting really sleepy after his bottle. Grandma KK carried him to the car as he was super cuddly and he was out on her shoulder before we even got in the parking garage! Such a fun evening.

7 months old today!

Eli is already seven months old and I cannot believe how fast he is growing!
Today he played with his first piano and seems to like it. He loves music.
GG Jean these pictures are for you!

Squash and Applesauce

In the last couple days, Eli had his first taste of squash.... Still not a big fan of cereal so I have been mixing it with his veggies.

Eli also had applesauce by itself for the first time and LOVED it. He kept wanting more. :)

Baseball 101

Daddy gave Eli his first baseball practice Thursday evening. He had to do a taste test first of course. We were impressed at our boy's grip already though!

Shopping and Saving

Eli's learning how to save early! Our morning started with sorting through coupons during which Eli wanted to help tear them out or just tear the paper. :) Then we went shopping at BJs which is like a Sam's Club or Costco. Eli rode in the cart sitting up looking at me for the first time. I cannot believe how big he is getting!! He was such a good boy and made lots of friends while mommy was shopping. He started getting sleepy towards the end and was asleep in his carseat before I even pulled out of the parking lot. So cute!

Sweet daddy time

Daddy gave Eli a bath tonight. Then my boys shared some special time while Eli had a bottle and got ready for bed. This photo was taken right as Eli belched halfway though eating!

So precious! You may notice that daddy decided to give Eli a combover after his bath. Our little man!

A taste of fruit

Since Eli has been eating so well, we decided to introduce fruit by giving him a mix of apples and sweet potatotes today. Here is his first bite after eating some cereal.. He much prefers veggies or fruit over cereal.

He has consistently been trying to help me get the spoon to his mouth now...

And again, I just can't get the food to him quick enough so he is telling me about it. :)

Such a good, happy boy!

Eli ate sweet potatoes for the first time today!

Our boy can't seem to get enough food! Here he is eating sweet potatoes for the first time while we hung out with friends at Mike and Emily's house this afternoon.

He is up to two servings of veggies a day, four bottles, and one serving of cereal. He didn't care much for the thinner cereal out of a spoon so we recently started thickening it up and he's doing better. We plan to increase to two servings of cereal a day and start adding a fruit in the next week or so.

It's amazing how focused he can be when it comes to eating. He now has his mouth open ready for more before I can even scoop it out! Such a good boy.

First taste of green beans

Our boy is such a good eater. He just loves everything!

First bite!

Really enjoying every bite. :)

Too cute, waiting for more!

Back to blogging

Alot has happened since our last post so I will try and get you up to date.

A few days after the last post I went into early labor and luckily with a 24 hour stay at the hospital and bedrest the labor was delayed but only for 12 days. At 37 weeks, I went into labor again and on January 23, 2011, Elijah John Edington introduced himself to the world. Four days later we all came home, although we would visit the pediatrician daily to monitor Eli's jaundis. At six days old, Melody, our amazing pediatrician detected a slight heart murmur that she would monitor as well. That Monday, at eight days old, the jaundis was gone but she seemed more concerned about the heart murmur and scheduled a cardiologist appointment for the next day to have Eli further checked out. It was that day that temporarily turned our lives up side down. We found out that Eli had a coarctation of the aorta or narrowing of the aorta and he would need heart surgery. Two days later, at twelve days old, Eli had a very successful heart surgery where a portion of his aorta was cut out and then the remaining part was put back together. We were so blessed to have all of our parents here, despite a snowstorm in Missouri, as well as dozens of friends support in NC, and hundreds of prayers from friends and family all over the country.

Eli has since recovered spectacularly and is a healthy, happy, growing boy! In the last six months Scott has changed jobs a few times and I went back to work for a month after maternity leave and then was able to stay home with Eli full-time. I have LOVED being at home with our sweet boy and continue to enjoy each and every moment. Scott has since begun working from home full-time and we are enjoying daddy being around much more often!

In the last few months our family has also had the opportunity to travel to STL for my cousin Molly's wedding and for Eli to meet some more of his family. Many family members have also come to NC to meet Eli as well. Recently, we traveled to Myrtle Beach with Nannee and Pops for a weekend and to Hilton Head for a few days to visit with Aunt Pam and great grandma GiGi.

Our family is currently enjoying time together while trying to stay cool during one of the hottest summer's ever. 108 degrees last week set a record! Also, enjoying feeding Eli new things and so far he is loving everything we give him. I promise to do better about updating our blog regularly. So until next post....
